The perpetrators behind the July 2021 unrest may also soon face terrorism and treason charges.
This is according to Police Minister Becky Seeley, who told the media on the sidelines of an ANC National Executive Committee meeting in Birchwood on the East Rand that the state was looking into adding more charges.
According to Seely, the state is looking at amending the indictment from incitement to violence to terrorism and treason.
“What we’re doing with them, we’re ramping up the charges,” Seeley said, “we want to move the charges from normal incitement and everyone to terror and terrorism.”
“So it looks like we’ve found that there are some good ones except for the Mercedes-Benz guy who’s been judged. There’s a lot more to come.”
