Three trucks caught fire in Limpopo after 11 of them caught fire in KZN and Mpumalanga

Police say unidentified men burned three trucks on Monday along the R547 Lydenburg road in Limpopo, bringing to 14 the number of trucks burned across the country in three days.

SAPS Colonel Malisila Ledawaba said a truck driver told police that six men traveling in a car intercepted his truck, held him at gunpoint, and ordered him to stop and get out of the vehicle.

“The complainant was driving a Scania truck along the R547 Lydenburg Road in Sekhukhune heading to hand over vines at a local mine when he was accosted on the road by six unknown men. Two of the suspects were armed with firearms. He took aim with a firearm and ordered the truck to cut through, as well as get off.” through the windows and then the suspects burned the van,” Ledwaba said.

He added that two trucks that were parked behind the burning car were also set on fire. So far, 14 trucks have been set on fire in KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga and Limpopo since the beginning of last weekend. Six were burned in KZN while five were burned in Mpumalanga.

Ledawaba said the police are searching for the suspects.

President Cyril Ramaphosa said the incidents were “economic sabotage”. Transport Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga said the suspects should be brought to trial. DM
