The body of a five-year-old girl from KwaZulu-Natal who went missing while her parents were helping to put out a fire in an informal settlement was found on Sunday.
Minhil Kumalo disappeared from her home in Shaka Head on the North Coast on July 2 while her parents went to help put out a fire that destroyed 16 huts.
Her mother told the authorities that they had left the child alone in the locked house, but when they returned, a window opened and their daughter was gone.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesman Const Thingiswa Ngkubo said on Monday that the decomposing body of the child was found on the Shaka Head railway line on Sunday.
When she recovered, she had multiple injuries to the head and body. Reports indicate that the child was reported missing a week ago, and a thorough search was conducted for her by the police and many role players.”
Ngkubo said the Umhlali police were investigating the boy’s death.
