Ekurhuleni emergency services are on high alert as severe cold snap begins

While Ekurhuleni is experiencing freezing temperatures with light snow, the Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) says firefighters and disaster teams remain on high alert.

South African weather service (leaves) last week South Africans warned to prepare for a very cold weekend when they confirmed a cold front was expected across much of the country from Friday through Monday.

Temperatures are expected to drop during the week, resulting in frostbite and hypothermia for those exposed, said Ekurhuleni emergency services spokesman William Ntlady.

“Extremely cold conditions not only affect humans but also animals alike. Pet owners who sleep and generally stay outside are advised to consider keeping them somewhere warm as well.”

Ntladi also warned communities to remain vigilant, furthermore when heat sources are used for heating.
