KwaZulu-Natal Police confirmed that two trucks were again set on fire in the province on Monday night, bringing the total number of trucks set on fire in just two days to 16.
The latest incident occurred around 10pm while the trucks were waiting in line along the N2 highway, according to KwaZulu-Natal Police spokesperson Brigadier Jay Necker.
A group of armed men allegedly attacked the two truck drivers and robbed them of their belongings.
The men were then forced out of the trucks before being set on fire.”
It is believed that the trucks were set on fire in Canfields, between Insilene and Empangene.
Necker confirmed that the Empangeni police are investigating a case of armed robbery, malicious damage to property and attempted murder.
Bongani Gina, Amhatuz City Communications Director, said their emergency services responded to the incident. He said the drivers were fortunately unharmed.
