Eskom Announces Phase 4 and 6 Load Separation ‘Until Further Notice’

Eskom announced Phases 4 and 6 load shedding effective Wednesday morning due to “loss of additional generating units overnight.”

The beleaguered power utility made the announcement in a brief statement just before 7 a.m., when the fourth phase of the outage was expected to begin.

“Due to the loss of additional generating units overnight, the heavy use of open cycle gas turbines and the inability to replenish pumped storage dam levels, the fourth phase of loadshedding will take place at 7am this morning.” [Wednesday] to 2 p.m.

And then Phase 6 will be carried out until 5 a.m. on Thursday. This pattern will repeat daily until further notice. Eskom will post an update as soon as there are major changes.”

Things got worse for Eskom since Monday’s freezing weather across much of the country with snow falling in some counties.
