I am a huge supporter of Orlando Pirates, but I believe the club has taken a very conservative, evasive, and cowardly legal stance on its advocacy of supporting the global boycott of apartheid Israel by people of conscience.
Rather than simply saying it supports a boycott initiated and supported by various progressive and radical civil, social, political, cultural and religious organizations in the world, including South Africa, the club hides behind the excuse that there is no such boycott by the Football Association.
Since when did the conscience of individuals and organizations depend solely on the position of governments or international bodies? This game is not a FIFA-sanctioned game that requires Pirates to be respectful.
It is a friendly game that the Bucs have the right to choose to opt out of.
