‘Unbelievable person and best rugby player’: Boks praises retired Steyn

In the victorious 2019 World Cup campaign, Stein made two appearances in pool matches against Namibia and Canada, and played crucial roles when off the bench in all three of their knockout matches, including the final against England.

“I gave her everything I had and have no regrets,” Stein wrote.

“I have so many people to thank from all over the world for their support throughout the highs and lows of my career. I will be forever grateful for the opportunities, friendship, memories and lessons that rugby has given me. I look forward to the next chapter and the opportunity to give back to the game that gave me everything.

“Thank you for all the support. It has been a great honor.”

Steyn scored 165 points for the Boks including 11 tries. In his final Test appearance against Argentina in Durban last year, he started at flyhalf, kicking three conversions and a penalty in a convincing 38-21 victory.
