The retailer said applications are now open for the Shoprite Group’s financial grant program. The program covers tuition, on-campus accommodation, grocery allowance, and, according to Shoprite, is guaranteed employment upon graduation.
It has invited students from various majors – especially those in information technology (IT) – to apply.
“Applications for the Shoprite Group Scholarship Program are now open. We invite young people studying in the fields of accounting, business management and criminology, especially those pursuing careers in IT to apply online,” said the President of Talent and Learning Solutions Group. Lee Adams.
In addition to the scholarship offer, the retail giant has also invited experienced technology professionals to join its rapidly expanding technology division.
Greytown-born Percival Vakathi is one of those employees involved in the initiative, joining the team in 2020 after graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Mathematics from the University of Pretoria.
Phakathi helped develop a geospatial solution for on-demand grocery delivery app Checkers Sixty60 for retail stores, optimizing delivery zones and ensuring delivery in less than 60 minutes.
He describes the work environment as “dynamic” and “inclusive”.
