A 7.2-magnitude earthquake hit the Alaska Peninsula early Sunday morning, the US Geological Survey said, and a tsunami warning was issued for nearby areas but later withdrawn.
The US Tsunami Warning System has withdrawn a warning it had issued for coastal areas of southern Alaska and the Alaskan Peninsula.
The USGS revised the quake’s magnitude from an initial reading of 7.4, and revised the quake’s depth to 32.6 km (20.3 miles) from an initial 9.3 km.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries although a few Twitter accounts posted videos of tsunami sirens and strong tremors felt.
