Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife deploys field rangers after sightings of two lions

Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife says it cannot confirm or deny the existence of two lions It was reported to have been seen in Nembe district of uMlalazi municipality in North KwaZulu-Natal.

On Sunday, Izimvelo said there have been reports that three different families have seen two lions, one male and one female.

They immediately deployed field rangers to the site to try to confirm their presence, track them down and capture them, said Musa Mntambo, Director of Wildlife Communications at Ezemvelo KZN.

Unfortunately, Mntambo said, the rangers didn’t see any lions in the area. He said because the area had a hard surface that made it difficult to spot the niqab.

Hluhluwe iMfolozi Park (HiP), game reserve with lions near where males and females were allegedly seen, more than 100 km from Nembe district.

Ezemvelo has not received reports of livestock killed by lions. She said it would be rare for lions to travel more than 100 km without killing any livestock.
