The South Africans are in for an even darker Friday and possibly a darker weekend after Eskom’s Stage 4 announcement download From 10 a.m. on Friday.
“Due to higher than expected demand, Phase 4 load shedding will be carried out as of 10am this morning.” [Friday] to 5 a.m. on Saturday. The tool said Eskom will publish another update if there are any major changes.
Eskom’s announcement came hours after City Power appealed to Johannesburg residents to reduce their electricity consumption “to avoid experiencing similar outages for longer periods in these cold conditions”.
“Temperatures across Johannesburg have eased significantly following another cold front. Citi Power has already begun to experience a sharp increase in demand for electricity, which is putting an unbearable strain on our grid and resources,” Citi Power said.
She said according to South African weather serviceCold weather is expected to continue into the weekend.
“We therefore appeal to customers to reduce their consumption by using electricity in moderation and to always switch off all non-essential appliances,” said City Power.
