Another 10 people have been released and four others died on suspicion of malnutrition, after authorities broke into a house in Chicola village, Kilifi County,
According to reports, the four people who passed away – three men and a woman – were members of the controversial Good News International Rev. Paul Mackenzie’s church.
The police repeated the raid the next day after receiving information about the alleged “prayer session” from the general public.
We found them in very bad shape, and others passed out on the way to the hospital. “We can confirm that four of them died while the others are being treated at Malindi Referral Hospital,” said a security source involved in the operation.
A police report confirmed the veracity of this information, saying, “We have received reports of ignorant citizens starving under the pretense of meeting Jesus after being brainwashed by the suspect, Mackenzie Nthingi, Pastor of Good News International Church.”
The dead were fingerprinted to verify their identity because most of them had neither identity documents nor mobile phones.
Police identified those hospitalized in critical condition as Alan Obero (17), Wyclef Waimwe (43), Mercy Oku (35) from Kisumu, Paul Karissa from Kilifi and Jane Nyampura (38) and Alfred Chitemi (32) from Vihiga.
There is also Felix Wandira (37) from Busia, David Abuhaya (49) from Vihija, Collins Kapai (22) from Busia, Monica Masika (36) from Kakamega and an unidentified adult female.
