Brenda Akini Ochola’s family has denied allegations that she was murdered in Malaysia while involved in drug trafficking.
In a statement confirming her death, the family stated that Ms. Akinyi fell ill on April 15, 2023, and was transferred to a hospital in Kuala Lumpur.
She passed away on April 25, 2023, despite the tremendous efforts made by the medical staff to save her life.
On behalf of the Ochola family, we would like to address the false rumors circulating about my sister, Brenda Akinyi Ochola. Brenda fell ill, was admitted to Kuala Lumpur Hospital, and died on April 25, 2023.
Relatives of the deceased also denied reports that she was placed on life support and was in a coma.
The family alleges that Mrs. Akinyi developed multiple organ failure as a result of hypoxic encephalopathy caused by Mycoplasma pneumonia.
“During this difficult time, we respectfully ask for privacy as we grieve our loss and ask you to keep our family in your prayers,” the family said in the statement.
Akinyi’s death was first reported early this week, with reports on social media claiming she died while smuggling drugs.
The posts alleged that Ms. Akinyi was stopped at an airport in Malaysia and her stomach exploded, with other reports alleging she had cocaine in her stomach.
