All incoming and outgoing aircraft at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) have been temporarily grounded.

This is due to the temporary closure of the runway, the Kenya Airports Authority said in a statement on Monday.

According to Kuwait News Agency, an attempt to take off a cargo plane was canceled when it encountered mechanical difficulties.

The authority stressed that the safety of passengers is its top priority and that it is working to find a quick solution.

“Our top priority is the safety of all passengers and we are working closely with the relevant authorities to resolve this situation as quickly and safely as possible. As a result of the runway closure, all incoming and outgoing flights have been temporarily suspended.

Passengers have been advised to contact their airlines for more information on the status of their flights.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience and understanding.
