News anchor Sophia Wanuna leaves KTN

Famous media personality Sofia Wannonna has left the Mombasa Road-based media company, Standard Group.

Wanuna, who served as deputy editor-in-chief of KTN’s broadcasting department, has yet to announce her resignation from Standard Group.

Wanuna has informed Standard Group management that she is resigning for personal reasons.

Peter Opondo, who had been sacked, was replaced as the new Broadcast Content Editor in July 2021 by Sofia Wanona, who was appointed to the acting role.

In an internal memo written by then-editor-in-chief Ochieng Rapuro, Wanuna’s appointment took effect on July 15, 2021.

Last Friday, our broadcast editor Peter Opondo left the company to pursue other interests.

Therefore, I have appointed Ms. Sophia Wanona to take charge of this part of our operations until further notice.

“The editorial team is hereby notified to collaborate with Ms. Wanuna for the purposes of maintaining our broadcasts and our promise to provide high-quality, in-depth, and timely consumer content on the course. Ms. Wanuna is in charge as of July 15, 2021,” read the internal note in 2021.

Other notable names that have recently left Standard Group include; Loffy Matambo, Frieda Mwaka, Ben Ketele, Brian George Otieno, Roslyn Opala, Ibrahim Karanga, Brian Oboya, Nicholas Wambua and Brenda Kirobo among others.

On the radio side Standard Group lost Billy Mia, Linda Oriaso, Ali Hassan Kollini, Mwalimu, Emmanuel Mwasumbi, Mabrouk Mwalimu and Beatrice Maganga to Radio 47 among others.
