Residents of Niagari village in Embu province are in shock, after discovering the death of a woman inside her home after she was hacked to death.
Grace Wari, 64, killed, had cuts on her skull and other areas of her body, indicating that she had been violently murdered.
On Wednesday night, neighbors found her body and called the police.
Moments later, the police went to the scene and took the body to Embu Referral Hospital Mortuary for an autopsy.
According to the neighbours, they suspected something was wrong when they failed to meet Ms. Warui for two days and decided to check on her.
When we didn’t see her on Monday and Tuesday, we went to her house and found her door wide open. A neighbor said: “When we searched inside, we found her lying in a pool of blood.
Neighbors, who described Ms. Warwe as down-to-earth and friendly, said they still did not believe what happened to her.
The family members of the deceased who were not home when the horrific murder took place are also puzzled.
“I was in Meru when I learned that she was no longer there,” said Mr. Denis Mwenda, son of the deceased.
Mr Mwenda said it was possible her mother was left out because of a land dispute.
“My mother was involved in a border dispute with some people who claimed that she had trespassed on their land, and these people should be investigated,” Mr Mwenda said.
Another family member, Mr. Njeru Whangari, said he was at home when he received a report of the murder.
“When I learned of the deadly attack, I rushed to the scene and found scores of people surrounding the place,” said Mr. Wangari.
